We stand with the Asian-American community

We stand with the Asian-American community
By St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell
Martin Luther King Jr. said: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught
in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects
one directly, affects all indirectly.”
We are all family and all in this American experiment together. America is the most diverse
country in the world, and that diversity is what makes us strong. It is our super power. We are
the strongest, most resourceful country in the world, but our greatest resource is, and always
has been, are people. We all may come from different backgrounds and cultures, but we are
united in this “network of mutuality.”
The shootings in Atlanta that resulted in the death of six people of Asian descent (and two other
individuals) were tragic and intolerable. In addition to our prayers and condolences to the
victims of these heinous acts and their families, we must also extend our hand as a show of
support that we stand with the Asian-American community. An injustice to our Asian family is an
injustice to our entire American family.
In my role as St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney, I also want to make it clear that we want to
hear from anyone from this or any community who is a victim of discrimination or hate.
