FREE Electronics Recycling & Document Shredding Event

Centennial Commons Parking Lot, 7210 Olive Blvd

(SCANews.com 【圣路易时报讯】) Do you have old TVs, computers, routers, cell phones, cords, battery-operated electronics, or any other miscellaneous electronics lying around the house that you need to dispose of? University City will be hosting an electronics recycling drop-off event, which will also include document shredding for any paperwork that you need to dispose of securely. 

• The event is free for residents of St. Louis County only. The event is not open to businesses.

• Recycle up to two (2) monitors/TVs per vehicle at no charge*. For other electronics, there are no limits on how many items you can recycle, and most items are free of charge.

• Recycle up to (3) paper boxes of documents/paper for shredding per vehicle.

Please read on for important information about the event:

· Please use the western-most entrance (across from Meyer St) to the Centennial Commons parking lot. We would like to keep the other entrance available for people visiting Centennial Commons 

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING GUIDELINES 

The following items are NOT acceptable:

  • Fluorescent light bults/tubes
  • Alkaline batteries
  • Mercury thermostats
  • Any device with radioactive symbol
  • Any device that contains biohazard material
  • Any device containing explosive material
  • Gas or oil powered devices MUST have the liquid removed

DOCUMENT SHREDDING GUIDELINES:

· The event is free for residents of St. Louis County only. The event is not open to businesses.

· Recycle up to (3) paper boxes of documents/paper for shredding per vehicle, while funding allows.

Things that are OK to shred at the event:

  •  Personal/ Business Information
  • Confidential Correspondence
  • Financial Reports
  • Trade secrets
  • Employee Records
  • Older tax files/ Banking Information
  • Staples and Paper Clips are OK!

Things that can NOT be shredded at the event:

  • Large Metal Objects
  • Food Waste
  • Electronics/Batteries/Cell Phones
  • Medical Waste
  • Cardboard Boxes

If you have more than two monitors/TVs, you will be charged for the additional items ($30 for tube TVs or monitors; $10 for flatscreen TVs or monitors).The event is funded by a grant from Saint Louis County’s Department of Public Health utilizing County landfill surcharge funds.
